Origin Story
Dangerous Cheese traces its roots back to 2008, before the band actually carried the name Dangerous Cheese. In the beginning, the project was called Matrimony -N- Cheese, a Wedding Singer-inspired concept built around party music, absurd ideas, theatrical presentation, and a serious commitment to cheese.
The original name was coined by Dan Silljer. Much of the concept work behind the early band came from Zubazz and original bassist Kevin Kyle, who helped shape the project during its earliest phase. Kevin had especially big, often gloriously absurd ambitions for what the band could be, including the idea of decorating bars to look like wedding receptions. It was memorable, theatrical, and sometimes so convincing that people thought they were walking into somebody's real private wedding.

September 2008: rehearsing songs for the new band before the first show had even happened.
The very first show on stage: tuxedo shirts, tinsel, flowers, and the beginning of a very strange idea becoming real.
Also from the very first night: April as one of the Cheese Girls, bringing out a full cheese tray halfway through the night purely for fun, confusion, and because the band could say it had Cheese Girls.
That early version of the band leaned heavily into big concepts, but over time the project evolved. Zubazz always liked weird, just not weird for its own sake. The goal was to keep what was fun, theatrical, and memorable, while shaping it into something audiences would genuinely enjoy. That instinct helped steer the band toward the format that finally clicked.
The name Dangerous Cheese came from an older idea Zubazz had been carrying around for years. Back in about Grade 11, he created a fake movie-poster concept using the name Dangerous Cheese. When the band eventually moved away from the Matrimony -N- Cheese identity, that older name came back and proved to be the right fit. The cheese-wheel logo stayed, and the new name was worked into it using a Goonies-inspired visual approach shaped into the cheese itself.
By around 2010, the project had evolved into the Dangerous Cheese era, with a clearer identity and a stronger focus on what the band does best: a premium, crowd-moving 80s-only live show built around massive songs, sharp presentation, and real personality. What began as a wild concept found its truest form in a tighter, more confident version of itself.
Through all the lineup changes and evolution, there has been a real thread of continuity. Zubazz and Brad are the two members who have been there from the very beginning, carrying the project from its original era into the Dangerous Cheese version audiences know today. Kevin Kyle was the original bass player and a true co-creator in the early concept phase. Later chapters brought other players into the story, including different drummers across the years before the band landed on the lineup and chemistry it has now.
So when people ask where Dangerous Cheese came from, the answer is not just a funny name. It is a long-running creative project with roots, reinvention, and real personality behind it, one that started in 2008, found its clearest form around 2010, and kept evolving into the band it is today.
